Like many small-batch makers, Florida Pure Sea Salt was born from a marriage of passions. Our founder, Maureen Cacioppo feels at home near the sea, having worked in the nonprofit outdoor education sector for years. She also comes from a large Italian family who loves to cook and eat, instilling within her a deep respect for the way food brings people together.
These personal experiences, and maybe a little bit of magic, drove Maureen to harvest sea salt as a hobby. She tried and failed and tried again, and eventually found that she enjoys not only the history of salt, but the chemistry side of the process as well. Maureen knew she was onto something bigger than a hobby when she found herself creating a consistently delicious and pure product.
Maureen’s relationship with food began at a young age, watching her grandmother carefully handle ingredients her grandfather gently picked from their garden. Everything was cooked low and slow. You could taste the love that went into each dish. Her family’s days were busy growing up, but they always made time to sit at the table to talk with each other and connect.
