Black Sea Salt
This salt is made with activated charcoal which shouldn’t be confused with the charcoal you use to light your barbecue. Charcoal is “activated” by processing it at very high temperatures. The high temperatures change its internal structure, reducing the size of its pores and increasing its surface area causing it to be more porous than regular charcoal. When you ingest activated charcoal, drugs and toxins can bind to it preventing their absorption. This helps rid the body of unwanted substances.
Some studies show that activated charcoal may help alleviate gas and bloating and also help reduce cholesterol levels. It may even help promote kidney function by reducing the number of waste products that the kidneys have to filter.
Because charcoal doesn't have much of a taste, this salt pairs with pretty much anything. Definitely use it where the rich, dark color contrasts other colors in the dish or cocktail.
